SeaDarQ Monitors Costa Concordia

While salvors have finally started pumping the oil and fuel from the grounded Costa Concordia, the shipwrecked cruise liner is still raising concerns of an oil spill that could devastate the coastline of Isola di Giglio, Italy. Installed aboard Italian tug Tirreno, SeaDarQ is monitoring the area around the wreck.

A thin contaminant slick has been observed on the surface, raising concerns of a fully fledged oil spill in the bay.
The threat of contaminating the coastline with 500,000 gallons of fuel from the sinking ship has been on everyone's mind since the accident. Within mobilised forces to combat and recover a possible oil spill, the Italian government is using the recently acquired SeaDarQ system. Constant monitoring and quick reaction in case of a spill as small as 5 litres of oil offers hope of preserving the coastline from potential pollution from the wreck.
