The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB, India) has drafted an integrated local contingency plan (LCP), on the lines of National Oil Spill Disaster Contingency Plan (NOS-DCP), to fight oil spill incidents in future.
The LCP will outline the role to be played by central and state authorities. Maharashtra has a 720km-long coastline and 16 captive ports, some of which handle oil cargo. A LCP should draw attention to forcasting, response, remedial measures and assessment of the situation following oil spills at a local level.
