Call to Ban Tankers from Pacific Coast

2012-02-02 14:45:25 - Spill International
The Canadian Wildlife Committee is fighting to ban tankers from the Canadian Pacific coast. The oil won in tar sands in Alberta is shipped from harbours and then transported through the Burrard Inlet. The capacity of oil shipped is up to three times more than the Exxon Valdez, and the organisation in particular is concerned about the increase of pipeline capacity to the coast.

Another new projected pipeline is in the opinion of the committee another threat to the coast. For the amount of oil transported as well as the increase of (super) tanker traffic. Anything happening happening in the inlet would be disastrous, according the the committee.
