Admiral Thad Allen to Give Keynote Address
He will share his insights on what communications systems the offshore oil and gas industry must have and offer suggestions as to how the communications service providers, rig owners, operators and government emergency response teams can better communicate. Following his Keynote, Adm. Allen will accept questions from the audience.
Last year, Adm. Allen was appointed by President Obama to serve as the National Incident Commander (NIC) for the unified response to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, a position he held concurrently while finishing his tenure as the Commandant of the Coast Guard.
In that position, Allen had significant interaction with the offshore rig operators and owners. He communicated on a daily basis with BP senior management and made weekly visits offshore to drilling rigs drilling relief wells and the other vessels involved in containing oil and capping the well.
Regarding the presentation, he thinks there will never be a major event or significant issue in the US or the world that will not involve public participation through the media, internet, volunteerism or the private sector. He says that for that reason all need to understand that the ability to communicate with clarity, transparency, and credibility has never been more important. Communication with internal stakeholders is also important to promote unity of effort and focus collective efforts on the problem at hand.
The conference is to take place from 8th to 10th November 2011 in the Houston Marriott Westchase, Houston, TX, USA.
