The Japanese Meteorological Agency has officially named the 11th March 2011 earthquake "The 2011 off the Pacific coast of Tohoku Earthquake." In an advisory of this agency, the likeability of aftershocks of a magnitude of 7 and higher is 70% until 16 March, 10.00 AM, and 50% until 19 March, 10.00 AM.
The agency expects the aftershock to occur especially in the Iwate, Miyagi and Ibaraki prefectures. As the affected area was very extended, there can be aftershocks with magnitudes of 5 and higher, sometimes even 6. Following a strong aftershock, a new tsunami may occur.
