Scripps Library to be Integrated

2011-02-21 11:16:00 - Hydro International
Due to the fragile financial situation of California, USA, the Scripps Library is to be integrated into a Science Library of the San Diego University. This would take place in the fiscal year 2011-12. This would save USD645,000 in operational cost, mainly staff and building costs.

Scripps Library to be Integrated
The Scripps library is the largest oceanography library in the world, and has many collections found nowhere else. While about 100,000 volumes of the over 227,000 volumes have been digitally archived by Google, many scientists need resources that aren't online - and you know that the Deep Sea News crew is generally in favour of Things Online.

The budget cuts are a next stage in savings going on since 2008. The total cost reduction in the university would be USD3 million. The total number of library buildings of the San Diego University would be reduced from six to two.
