Euronav's seaPro Supports TeamSurv
TeamSurv uses crowd sourced data to produce more up to date and accurate depth data for charts - large proportions of coastal waters were last surveyed by lead line over a century ago. Volunteer data loggers recording GPS and depth sounder position, either using their computer or a hardware data logger supplied on loan. The data is uploaded to the web site where it is added to the database and corrected for factors such as tides, and is then generated into a chart.
Euronav's seaPro 3000 is available in a number of versions, from the entry level seaPro Lite to systems for commercial use, all of which support TeamSurv by creating a log file ready for uploading to the TeamSurv server. Additional features in release 7 include better displays for the route plan, charts and GRIB files, and support for Windows 7. Euronav will be demonstrating seaPro on the Kelvin Hughes stand (C59) at London International Boat Show.
Tim Thornton of Smartcom Software, TeamSurv project co-ordinator, says "It is great to have seaPro supporting TeamSurv, as it makes it easy for all seaPro users to participate. We look forward to receiving data from anywhere, not just the trials areas where we are making the hardware loggers available."
Chris Pontet, Sales Manager at Euronav, says "TeamSurv is a fantastic project, helping update charts in areas that aren't surveyed recently. We're glad to support them in logging data, and look forward to our users being able to use the project's results in seaPro."
