EofE Ultrasonics, Korea, has successfully delivered autonomous precision altimeters RANGELOGGER EA400 to both WHOI, USA, and Inha University, South Korea, for monitoring sedimentation in coastal areas. The programmable autonomous altimeter RANGELOGGER EA400 is a compact, low-cost, lightweight (500g), connector-free echo sounder with frequency 450kHz (or 200kHz for longer range) designed for long-term (several months) measurements of the altitude/range data and temperature. It provides sub-millimetre resolution data in harsh environments.

The device is packaged in a subsea pressure housing with integrated power management system and data storage systems for 500,000 measurements of distance and temperature. Using the wireless Bluetooth link, operators can download data directly from the device without opening the housing to the PC/notebook/smart-phone and set parameters of work. Operators can change the measurement repetition rate (duty cycle) from 1 second to several hours, the range from 1 metre to 50 metres, the threshold and output data formats. The device can measure distances by series of pulses (up to 60 pulses) with the designated repetition rate with pulses of 100 milliseconds for more accurate and stable data.

With its capability of significantly longer time operation, higher accuracy and more competitive price, the RANGELOGGER EA400 system is a perfect choice for long-term monitoring of sediment, wave heights and water levels in rivers, harbours, water channels and oceans. It is applicable to seabed mapping, sediment transfer studies, bridge scour monitoring, instrument altitude measurement,  sediment monitoring and wave height measurements.

For real-time monitoring, USB cabled version and underwater connector version with RS-232,485 and 422 are also available.
